Concrete Water Tank Repairs
There are several methods for repairing a concrete water tank, including (but not limited to):
Use of Crystals –
these react with the concrete forming a new barrier to repair the
surface. The surface must be clean and wet. Can continue to help heal an
existing crack, but not new cracks.
Glues and sealants –
different sealants can be applied either inside the tank (the tank will
usually have to be emptied) or outside the tank under pressure.
Generally the sealant is flexible and can expand with the tank,
accommodating some movement.
Paints and fillers– can form a protective barrier, but water may end up getting underneath and eventually leaking.
Using a tank liner– usually
the more expensive option, but will last the longest. A tank liner will
also accommodate just about any tank movement and prevent leaking from
existing cracks and even new cracks.
In
order to carry out the repair of a concrete water tank, you need to
consider why as the leak appeared in the first place. This means that
repairing a crack with a rigid material is no good without answering the
question why it is cracking. If the cause hasn’t been stopped the seal
will fail if the crackis still widening.
